Getting to Lanzarote
Lanzarote is located 70 miles off the coast of Africa and is serviced by one main airport – Arrecife (ACE) which handles both international and domestic services.
Flights to Lanzarote are available from all of the major UK airports and the island is serviced by leading carriers such as easyJet, Monarch, Fly Thomas Cook and Thomson. As well as smaller regional airlines such as Jet2, who operate flights out of Leeds/Bradford and Manchester.
The flight time from the UK is four hours. Average ticket prices are currently around £200 return – depending of course on the time of year.
Whilst it is possible to find a flight on virtually any day of the week the main flight days fro UK arrivals are Thursdays and Sundays.
Visas and Passports
EU residents do not require a visa to enter Lanzarote. Tourists from the UK simply have to show their passport at passport control. Entering the island is usually a quick, trouble free process.
Baggage Reclaim
Baggage reclaim is usually prompt – with most baggage usually clearing within around 20 – 30 minutes.
It is important for passengers to note that once they have left the baggage reclaim area they may not return. As a result of heightened security measures introduced over the last few years.
Arrecife Airport Facilities
Land side facilities at Arrecife airport are limited. There is, for example, no bureau de change – although visitors will find a cash machine in the arrivals hall.
Transfer To Resort
Lanzarote´s three main resorts of Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca are not serviced by an airport shuttle bus or public bus service.
The bulk of tourists arriving on the island are transported to their resort by coach.
Independent travellers will either need to take a taxi – which can be found directly outside the main arrivals hall. It is worth noting that these queues can be lengthy during peak periods.
Or alternatively hire a car at the airport. The main car hire desks are located to the left as you leave the baggage reclaim area.
Car hire in Lanzarote is relatively cheap, starting from around €20 per day depending on car hire class and the duration of the hire period. Petrol currently costs around €0.80 per litre (unleaded).
